I also suspect the city of Phoenix paid for his medical expenses.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton breaks nose playing basketball with Phoenix Mercury
Mayor Greg Stanton has some battle wounds to show from his practice Monday with the Phoenix Mercury.
Stanton was running drills with the team when he was sent to the hospital with a broken nose. He caught an elbow from forward/center Nakia Sanford as he attempted a rebound.
The mayor returned to City Hall in the afternoon with a swollen nose and blood spots on his shorts and sneakers. His nose was fractured in two places, and his dreams of joining the Mercury practice squad are dashed for the time being.
"My biggest mistake was thinking I could actually get a rebound," Stanton said. "As I now know, they're tough."
Stanton wasn't so humble last week when he released a humorous video pleading case for joining the team. He claimed to have a "better jump shot than Barack Obama."
"Coach, I'm taking this really seriously," Stanton said as he curled miniature dumbbells. "I know if I'm going to be guarding Nakia Sanford ... I've got to buff up."
Stanton says he'll stay on the sidelines next time, perhaps working as an assistant coach instead.
